A dog ball thrower or launcher is a device to extend the distance a person can throw a ball or even do all the work for the person. There are four basic designs in the dog ball launcher technology. First there are the devices where a ball fits in a cup and either an overhand or underhand throw will release the ball. Then there are the balls with bungee cords attached somehow and you hook the bungee cord, pull the ball back and release. Then there is the slingshot style ball launcher. This works just like a slingshot but has a pad that holds tennis balls. There is a forearm brace to get that extra pull back before the release. Then there is the automatic dog ball thrower that has a bucket, a feed, and then a device pitches the ball out. There is a remote control along with teaching your dog to put the balls back in the bucket and you can relax.
So why would you buy a dog ball thrower. To get more distance out of a throw. Dogs of all breeds get excited about a game of fetch and could go on for hours. Being able to get good, long throws out there with an aid lets you last longer. It is not as physically exerting to use a thrower.
Longer distance on the throws equates to longer distances that crazy dog will have to run to get and retrieve. That means in less time and with less energy spent on the throwers part. Your dog gets a great workout and you are not completely tired out after the walk.
If you are physically challenged or just do not have the energy to throw these devices may allow you to enjoy participating in a good game of fetch with your pal. I met a lady in her late eighties at the beach once. She had a Golden retriever and a very simple ball thrower. She was able to go out every morning, enjoy a nice easy walk on the beach and still give her young Golden a great workout.
Finally the last reason to get a dog ball thrower would be to have fun. Whether you are doing the tossing or laying in a hammock with the remote to your automatic thrower your dog is having a blast. Dogs need that exercise every day to be able to feel useful and burn off all that energy they have.
A dog ball thrower may be a very good tool if you have a ball crazy hound. You can get a great workout for your canine friend without being tired yourself afterward. They are all pretty reasonable in price except the automatic one is a little pricey. Hey it comes with a remote. Have fun with your dog and participate all you can.
