It’s important that you are prepared for your new puppy when you finally bring them home. Before we brought our husky puppies’ home we spent a lot of time trying to figure out what we needed for them. We bought them dog toys made especially for husky puppies, bowls for their food and water, a place for them to sleep (a large crate), two collars and a harness, and most importantly something to eat! Aside from purchasing all of these things, the husky breeder also recommended that we put together a little canine first aid kit for your new husky puppies. We were glad that we put a kit together because shortly after we brought our puppy’s home, we needed it!
In the beginning, our puppies were very curious which got them into some trouble. Husky puppies are known to be inquisitive and our little guy proved this to be correct. He decided that he wanted to explore our neighbors yard. He tried to squeeze under the fence and got stuck. After we finally pulled him out he had a cut on his back and our canine first aid kit came in very handy!
Keeping a canine first aid kit in your house will make you feel more comfortable in the case of an emergency. You can also save yourself an unnecessary trip to the vet. Your kit should include:
- Activated Charcoal Tablets: in case your puppies eat something that they shouldn't have, this will help absorb the substance in the stomach.
- Adhesive tape: In case you need to apply a bandage
- Bandages: to wrap cuts or broken bones (If you think your husky puppies have a broken bone than you should take them to the vet as soon as possible.)
- Antibacterial Ointment: to help prevent infection
- Cottons Balls: to apply ointments
- Hydrogen Peroxide: to clean a wound and prevent infection
- Petroleum jelly: to put on cuts that need to be bandaged
- Rectal Thermometer: to check your pups temperature
- Rubber Gloves: to prevent spreading germs or touching open wounds
- Rubbing Alcohol: to sanitize an area
- Scissors: to cut the bandages or something that gets caught in your dog's fur
- Tourniquet: to stop bleeding
- Towel: in case of severe bleeding or cold
- Tweezers: to remove thorns and splinters
Most of the contents of your canine first aid kit will be helpful with minor injuries. If your puppies have been severally injured or you think they may have been hurt badly, then it would be wise to call the vet.
