4 Tips For Dog Care During Travel

Travelling alone requires a completely different preparation than when you are traveling with a pet. If you are planning to go on a trip together with your dog there are several things to watch out for. Go over the checklist below to have a hassle free trip.

1. Advanced Bookings.

Although several hotels accommodate and have services for pets, many are not yet capable to provide such amenities. In order to ensure that there will be no embarrassment and stress of moving from one hotel to another, it is best to make an advanced booking with your favourite hotels. You need to inform them in ahead that you are coming in together with a dog in tow. Find out about arrangements and pet services to be sure that they are prepared to deal with this situation.

2. Tag your dog.

The possibility of your dog going missing always exists as you move along in unfamiliar environments. So it is important that your dog wears a collar. Indicate all important details like your name and contact details. It will also be considerate if you include some relevant information that tells about your dog.

3. Bring along Medicines, Foods, Toys and Change of Bedding for your Dog.

You need to make sure that everything your dog needs are packed along especially medicines and vitamins, foods and dishes, toys to keep the dog entertained and several changes of beddings and clothing to keep him warm.

4. Put your dog in a cage.

Unless you plan to keep your dog beside you each and every step of the way, it is best that you buy a large dog cage where your dog can be kept on certain times, including during travel and you yourself need some space. Having a large dog cage along would allow you some freedom to do certain things where it is difficult to have your dog with you. The cage will minimize your stress of constantly caring for your beloved pet dog. It will also be better for the dog to be left alone to sleep and relax on his own in his big, nice cage.

It is important to keep in mind that new surroundings are stressful for animals. Keep them as relaxed as possible. You can do this by letting around in his cage some of the things and toys that he is familiar with at home.

During the trip itself, make sure that your schedule includes periodic stops at comfortable places. This is important to keep your good health and that of the dog. This is a good time for you to stretch out and for the dog to get his dose of exercise. When dogs are well exercised they tend to have good sleep. And well rested pets are easier to manage.
